This is an experiment for me, using the AV1 video codec. I took Coalgirls' excellent 720p [FLAC/h264] release of Mai-Hime, transcoded all the audio to Opus (Japanese 160kbit, English 128kbit, Chinese 96kbit), and transcoded the video to AV1 (libaom-av1, 2-pass, cpu-used 2, crf 24, tiles 4x3) The intent was to create a viewing experience identical to the Coalgirls release, but with much lower storage requirements - This is less than one third of the disk space, but includes all the specials, all the language tracks, and the same subtitles. I think the video looks great, but feedback is welcome.
